FAQs
Do you create custom themes based on design?
Yes.
This is a common approach when creating a new website. The client already has a design prepared and after we review and discuss it, we decide the how elements interact and the functionality to be implemented.
Can you add adjustments and functionalities to an existing theme?
Yes.
If you already have purchased a theme or you have a working WordPress website that needs extra functionalities, we can work with that.
*For projects that are new and you already purchased a theme to use, we'll need to discuss and see if it's the best fit for your needs.
In many cases, the demo showcased is not flexible enough for your needs and the changes required might require too much time. If so, we might offer a different solution or even go with custom coding the theme directly.
Do I need a custom plugin?
When you need to add a lot of functionality to your website for a specific area, then it's time to turn that into a plugin.
You want this for 2 reasons:
- Keep the code separated from the other parts of the site.
- Easy to move to a different theme and retain the functionality that was created via the plugin. Making it future-proof.
Custom plugins will also make it easier for you to extend that functionality in the future if the business requires it.
How will you optimize my WordPress website?
Before optimizing your WordPress website we'll need to run an audit on it.
This audit will allow us to determine what is the current state of the website and what are the weak points when it comes to speed performance.
The most common weak points are:
- First Content Paint (FCP) - Slow server response to deliver the content.
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) - Too many or too large assets loaded on the top part of the page for the user to see first.
- Total Blocking Time (TBT) - The browser waits a very long time for all the JS/CSS assets to be loaded.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS) - The initial view shifts a lot as the content is loaded.
Each of the items stated above has a different way of solving them. Solutions will require caching, image optimization, CSS/JS optimization, theme optimization, query optimization, loading assets order, and CDN implementation.
How will the WordPress website's performance be measured?
The website performance will be measured using popular tools like Google PageSpeed Insights, GTMetrix, WebPageTest, or KeyCDN page speed.
We'll test the website before we start working on improvements, save those results, and compare them to the new test results once improvements have been made.
The performance can be measured by the score some of these tools offer (usually out of 100) or by the loading time measured.
In most cases, these 2 are correlated, but there are instances when the loading time is more important than the actual score generated.
What methods are you using to protect my WordPress website?
There is a wide variety of tools available to protect your WordPress site.
We use a combination of Wordfence firewall with Cloudflare protection for brute force attacks and settings at the server level ensuring that files can't be manipulated.
Also as good practice, certain URLs, and usernames, are hidden or not allowed.
Running a very strict environment allows us to control and observe if there are any attempts to gain access over your site from outside or inside the server via back-doors.
Can you clean a WordPress website that has malware?
Yes.
This is a common issue when you're running an old version of WordPress with plugins that are not updated.
A lot of old plugins are vulnerable to exploits that can be used to gain access to your website in order to display ads on it or redirect to shady links.
We can help clean up the website and get rid of the malware that has been added.
How will you help the SEO on my website?
We'll provide you with the tools that will allow you to implement good SEO practices on the website.
These tools will include plugins, code that is SEO friendly, and documentation on how to use those tools.
A good part of SEO is making sure that the search engine bots are able to read data correctly on the pages so they can be indexed properly. This can be addressed from the moment the code is written, by using good practices.
What type of integrations are you familiar with?
We do all kinds of 3-rd party API integrations with our projects.
The most common ones are related to payments, lead capturing, conversion tracking, tracking in general, storage, and shipping.
Some of the APIs that we worked with before are Stripe, FedEx, Canada Post, UPS, Zoho, MailChimp, Google, Amazon S3, Shopify, Klaviyo, and many more.
How fast can you migrate a WordPress website to a new server?
It depends on the size of the website in question. In most cases, migration can be done in 1 day if all the details are available for us.
However, when there is a very large website there are steps that need to be taken before performing the actual migration, ensuring that the transition is as smooth as possible.
